Train/rail travel service in France is efficient, punctual, and comfortable.
It is allowing travelers to view the countryside in a swift, but leisurely manner. France's extensive railway network connects large cities and towns throughout the country. The French National Railroads' (Société Nationale des Chemins de Fer or SNCF) network of inter-city rail links also provides frequent express and high-speed train service known as the TGV or Train à Grande Vitesse, operating at a commercial speeds of 200mph.
For added convenience, the Paris Charles-de-Gaulle Airport have high-speed train stations that may take you directly from your flight arrival straight to your cruise or tour in the countryside.
The price of train travel in France depends on whether you choose first or second class, as well as on the time and date of travel. There is also a variety of affordable and flexible passes (non-consecutive days of rail travel) including the France Railpass, the France Rail'n Drive and the France Saver Pass -- A special pass for two or more people traveling together.
Rail Europe also offers combo-country passes.
Most passes offered by Rail Europe have specially priced youth versions as well as special passes for seniors. Point-to-point tickets can also be purchased in the U.S.
We recommend AutoEurope for car rentals throughout France.
They provide an excellent on-line pre-departure service, and have very advantageous rates. They have a toll-free number in France (and most European countries), and we have found their service to be reliable and helpful.
AutoEurope agencies (especially EuropeCar) have branches in a large network of French cities and towns, with the possibility of pick-up and drop-off service in different locations. If you find that the car you have rented does not in fact meet your needs, they can provide an upgrade at many locations, sometimes at no charge.

For all departures, it is important to confirm with shuttle company your pick up time and location. Please make sure you call shuttle company at least 24 hours prior to your departure on the toll free number, either from your hotel room, or from any public France Telecom phone booth in Paris.
Booking process: French regulations oblige shuttle drivers to carry a manifest of pre-reserved passengers, before being permitted to enter the airport complex. Thus, contrary to the US, bookings for a transfer service in Paris must always be made in advance. Online bookings can be made up to 24 hours in advance for shared and private minvan service.
