La Vancelle is a Dutch barge, built in 1929 in the Wolthuis Sappermeer boat yard in the north of Holland. She was a working barge, sailing and transporting goods just up to 1988, and then, after a trip to Alsace, was completely renovated and refurbished under the control of Berend Gozens, an expert and a river boat artist.

Since then, La Vancelle has been the joy and contentment of her owners, Florence and Bernard Odinet.

Barge La Vancelle is cruising magical and historical Canal du Midi, which goes through the heart of Languedoc region.

Today, the Languedoc Roussillon is a very active French region, a crossroads between the north/south routes, from the North of Europe towards Catalonia, and the West/East routes, from the Atlantic ocean towards Italy.

The marks of History are everywhere, all along the Domitian Way, the Oppidum d'Enserune, Narbonne and Beziers, Agde and Carcassonne, Maguelonne and Aigues-Mortes, Arles and Beaucaire…

Through the centuries, the countryside has been shaped by man. Villages and crops are the reflection of a certain art de vivre.

The Canal du Midi is the work of art that gives the region its structure.
It is one of the first canals in the world, the second in France. It is the work of Pierre Riquet. After about 15 years of labor, it was inaugurated in 1681 and was the realization of a very old dream, that of connecting « the two seas », the Atlantic and the Mediterranean, at a time when the roads were very bad, and when the railway was still to be invented.
The bridges, the locks, and the works of art date, for the most part, from the 17th century and bear the stamp.

Highlights:

The liberty of choice of itinerary: Where do you want to go? In which direction, towards which towns, towards which stretches of countryside?

Choose your style: Are you searching for the culture, history, architecture, museum? Would you prefer the countryside, the beauty of nature and tranquility?
Would you like to organize a « jump » towards a place further a field?

The liberty of choosing your rhythm: A little more sailing, or a little less? Stopping here or further along? Setting off early?
Would you like to be active and help navigating the barge, or stay more calm on the bridge, dreaming in tranquility…

The liberty of dining as you wish: Would you like to eat with the « land locked terre », in the restaurant that catches your eye ? Or would you prefer to be self catering on board LaVancelle?
Dine on the bridge or in the dining room?
Would you like to discover the cuisine and great wines of the region?
In any case, no worries about breakfast, which will be served at your chosen hour…

The regular cruise program of La Vancelle is a Bed and Breakfast package for up to 6 guests, offering daily breakfast, prepared on board by your hosts.

All the other meals (lunch and dinner) are taken ashore and are not included in the cruise package.
