Enjoy lunch while cruising to Trevoux , where an afternoon excursion will introduce you to the Beaujolais Wine Country, including a visit and tasting with a local producer.
DAY 5: TOURNON
After your arrival in Tournon , step back in time for a journey via steam powered train to the Mastrou, in the Ardeche region. Your excursion presents the beautiful landscapes, arched bridges and chateaux of the area. Relax in the afternoon as the ship sets sail for Arles in the region of Provence.
DAY 6: ARLES and AVIGNON

DAY 2: LYON / CHATEAU DE GILLY
You arrive in Lyon where you are greeted by your tour manager, and escorted to the 14th century Chateau de Gilly , a converted Cistercian monastery set in beautiful gardens. After you've settled into your chambers, we'll meet for welcome feast of fine Burgundian cuisine in the Chateau's gothic dining room.
DAY 3: THE COTE D'OR
After a delicious buffet breakfast, the attractive countryside of stone villages, towns and vineyards will surround us today. We'll visit the old town of Dijon , its colorful Friday Market and stop at a local winery to taste some of the region's noteworthy wines. We'll try the local cuisine during lunch at an inn in the Cotes de Nuits area. After lunch, we'll travel along the wine road to the ancient Chateau de Vougeot , Burgundy's oldest winery. We'll return to the Chateau de Gilly for dinner.
DAY 4: BEAUNE / LYON / Embarkation
In the morning we leave for Beaune , where we'll explore this charming town. We'll visit Hotel-Dieu, built in 1443 as a hospital for the poor. We board the elegant MV Princesse de Provence in the afternoon.
DAY 5: Cruising / CHALON SUR SAONE / MACON
Today we'll experience spectacular scenic cruising with some free time in Chalon and Macon . Chalon is known as the birthplace of photography, and its museum contains early cameras and photography equipment, and over 2 million photographs. The city square hosts many delightful sidewalk cafes. We'll cruise on to Macon, a town full of charming squares and flowers, with a vegetable and flower market daily on the “place aux Herbes.”
DAY 6: Cruising / CLUNY / TREVOUX
After a luxurious breakfast, we're off to Cluny , the most important ecclesiastical center after Rome in the Middle Ages. Founded in 910 as a reaction to the corruption of the papacy, the Abbey of Cluny grew in power, and its abbots, including the legendary Cardinal Richelieu, competed with the French crown for influence. After lunch onboard, we leave Burgundy and alight in the town of Trevoux in Beaujolais Country . This afternoon we'll tour the countryside known for its “golden stone” villages. In the evening we'll enjoy dinner and entertainment on the Princesse as we sail on to Provence.
DAY 7: Cruising / TOURNON / ARDECHE
Following breakfast, we'll head for the train station in Tournon to board a vintage steam train for the spectacular gorges of the Ardeche region . We'll travel in carriages built in the 1800s and preserved by committed steam train enthusiasts. The train will take us through magnificent scenery as we climb through 1,000-foot gorges. We'll return to the ship for lunch before sailing south for Arles , the town of Van Gogh. Dinner is served onboard.

DAY 8: Cruising / ARLES
Controlled by Rome for five centuries, Arles is remarkable for its well-preserved ancient monuments, medieval cloisters and the landmarks of impressionism that inspired Van Gogh. We'll walk the town with our guide, have lunch and head into the countryside of Provence, and stop in at the monastery St.-Paul-de-Mausole in St. Remy where Van Gogh painted many of his most famous works. We'll also visit the charming town of Les Baux de Provence before returning to the ship for dinner. Tonight we sail for Avignon .
DAY 9: Cruising / AVIGNON
Still surrounded by ancient walls, Avignon is a busy modern city with perfectly preserved remnants of its rich history at every turn. After breakfast, we'll leave the ship docked at the city center, and venture off to explore the city's most notable historical monument, the Papal Palace, where French popes contested power with Italian popes during the 14th century. This afternoon, we'll visit the Pont du Gard , a monumental aqueduct built by the Roman general Agrippa in 19 BC to bring water to the regional capital, Nimes. We'll also visit the delightful mountain-top town of Uzes before returning to the Princesse for dinner.
DAY 10: Cruising / VIENNE / LYON
This morning we enjoy breakfast as we sail to Vienne . After lunch, we have time to enjoy the omnipresent antiquity of this small city before heading off for a tour of Lyon , the capital of Roman Gaul and now a center of French gastronomy. We'll see all the major sights of the city, including the Roman theater designed to hold 11,000 spectators, and the district of St. Jean. After free time to wander the city, we reboard the Princesse, now docked in Lyon. This evening the captain will host a farewell reception followed by dinner.
DAY 11: LYON / Disembarkation / Return to USA
This morning we depart for a TGV high-speed train from Lyon directly to Charles de Gaulle Airport in Paris for your optional flight home.

DAY 5: TOURNON
The Ardeche region, just to the north of sun-drenched Provence, is a land of picturesque cliffs, meandering rivers and lush green gorges. Board an old-fashioned steam train for a journey back in time as you pass through the pleasing landscapes. Enjoy a cool glass of Kir and refreshing snacks before returning to the ship.
DAY 6: ARLES-AVIGNON
Your arrival this morning into Arles will coincide with the rising sun, recalling the subtle light that so captivated Van Gogh. Explore the charming town of Arles and its Roman amphitheatre on your own and after lunch, follow "In the Footsteps of Vincent Van Gogh", through the delightful countryside to the village of St. Remy and the perched village of Les Baux .
DAY 7: AVIGNON
With its stone towers and imposing ramparts, the Palace of the Popes dominates the skyline of the Provencal city of Avignon . The Pope moved here in 1309 at the behest of King Phillipe, and the Papacy remained here for over 70 years. Spend the day at leisure in Avignon sightseeing and enjoying the sights of the Place d'Horloge. In the afternoon, opt for an excursion to the Pont du Gard , the immense Roman aqueduct bridge that can still carry water to this day!
DAY 8: VIENNE-LYON
Enjoy breakfast this morning as you glide by the beautiful sights of southern France on the way to the ancient Roman town of Vienne and your sightseeing destination of Lyon. Begin with the Fourviere Hill, a highpoint overlooking the confluence of the Saone and Rhone Rivers, where the Romans decided to construct the city of Lyon . Afterwards your walking tour will take you through Lyon's lovely old town of Gothic and Renaissance buildings, and its covered walkways, called Traboules.

We'll spend the next three nights at the Normandie Barriere , an enchanting hotel resembling an Anglo-Norman manor. In the late afternoon we'll take a short walking tour of this picturesque town before gathering back at the hotel for cocktails and dinner.
DAY 3: MONT SAINT MICHEL
After breakfast, we're off to the west on a full-day excursion to Mont St. Michel , the legendary monastery, church and prison just off the Norman coast. We'll appreciate the views of Mont St. Michel from all angles and will tour the monastery. After a specially arranged lunch at the Restaurant La Mer, we'll return to Deauville for a free evening.
DAY 4: BAYEUX / CAEN and the Landing Beaches
We travel today to Bayeux and its startlingly beautiful 12th century tapestry documenting one of the world's great turning points, the successful conquest of England by the Normans under William the Conqueror in 1066. Then, the modern world is thrust upon us as we take a guided tour of the harbor at Arromanches , the battery at Longues-sur-Mer and the American Cemetery at Colleville-sur-Mer . We'll walk on Omaha Beach , see Pointe du Hoc and visit other points of combat along the coast. We'll stop for lunch and finish the day at the Caen Memorial Museum , displaying a remarkable documentation of D-Day before returning to Deauville for the evening.
DAY 5: Embarkation on the MV Cezanne
After breakfast, we depart for our ship docked in Paris . There's time for a privately-guided tour of this ever-changing but always beautiful city before boarding the MV Cezanne in the afternoon. Cocktails and a delightful gourmet dinner are onboard tonight.
DAY 6: PARIS
Today is free for you to enjoy Paris as you wish; our tour manager is there to assist in any way we can. You can return to the Cezanne for lunch if you like. Dinner is onboard before sailing in the evening.
DAY 7: Cruising / LE HAVRE
We cruise to the port of Le Havre , established by Francis 1 in 1517 and recognized in 2005 as a World Heritage Site for its prominence in the age of trans-Atlantic ocean crossings.
DAY 8: The Alabaster Coast of Normandy
Heading to the eastern coast of Normandy today, we stop first at Fecamp , home to one of the greatest Benedictine abbeys of France. We continue to drive along this dramatic portion of the coast dominated by white chalk cliffs – not unrelated to those on the other side of the Channel – enjoying vistas of the sea and picking out remnants of Hitler's doomed Atlantic Wall. We'll see Etretat , one of the Norman Coast's most picturesque seaside resorts before returning to Le Havre.
DAY 9: Cruising / CAUDEBEC EN CAUX
After cruising south on the Seine in the morning, we depart at Caudebec-en-Caux to visit the 15th century Gothic cathedral of Notre-Dame, then continue to the Abbey Jumieges, probably the most beautiful ruin in France. The Abbey dates back to the Carolingian Period with examples of early Norman architecture from the 10th century. The afternoon is relaxing while cruising on the Seine toward Rouen for the night.
DAY 10: ROUEN
We enjoy a guided walking tour around Rouen , the former capital of Normandy. We'll see Rouen's Palace of Justice; the Old Market, where Joan of Arc was burned at the stake; and the world-famous Clock Tower. Rouen is known for the many church towers and spires that grace the city skyline as well as its collection of over 700 centuries-old half-timbered houses.
DAY 11: Cruising / GIVERNY
A small town near Vernon, Giverny now means Claude Monet to the world. His lovely home and gardens, where he lived and painted, is open to us today. Onboard tonight, cocktails and a delightful farewell dinner.
DAY 12: PARIS / Disembarkation
After breakfast, we depart for the airport for our return to the U.S.
